Hi everyone,
Long time reader, first time poster. Thank you all for all of the wonderful information!
I have a very obscure question, and I am wondering if there is anything in particular to keep in mind before I follow through.
The question:
Is it safe to run the Economizer Tune on my vehicle with a SRI, Catless DP, and Straight piped Exhaust?
The context:
My MS3 has become a daily driver for various reasons. Winter is Coming (I know nothing), and I would like to run the economizer tune in order to save some gas during the season where the gas pedal is more for traction than speed.
I currently run the OTS High Load High Flow DP tune, and will soon be upgrading from VT Lite to the Full version in order to start tuning myself, but that will have to wait until next season.
I am aware of the DP potentially causing some issues which is my main cause for concern, however, my thought process was that the economizer tune would reduce overall performance (possibly reduce overall load, WGDC etc...) and therefore reduce the amount of boost as well as fuel consumption and allow me to run the tune relatively issue-free.
Please feel free to let me know how ridiculous or viable this thought experiment is. Thanks in advance!
Economizer Tune on MS3 With Bolt-on Mods?
Re: Economizer Tune on MS3 With Bolt-on Mods?
The OTS economizer tune is basically trying to account for what most driven can't: right foot control
...or lack of it
Being a slightly modified version of the factory tune (slightly de-tuned in some areas, slightly tuned up in some other) should overall offer a better fuel economy.
However, now back to your concern: so being a slightly modified factory tune you should be able to use it no problem with your modifications AS LONG AS you drive sensibly. When driving sensibly there's going to be no turbo spool spike, no airflow spike and whatever spikes your current mods can generate and the ECU not to be prepared for. Also, these spikes wold not be that big of a problem a problem (they would still be, just not as big) if you had upgraded fuel pump internals which I don't see in your mods list.
Over time I experimented several ways of getting better fuel economy, and the most significant difference is getting my CX7 down from an average of 19.2l/100 / 12mpg to 16.5-17l/100 / 14mpg in city traffic mostly at peak hours.

Re: Economizer Tune on MS3 With Bolt-on Mods?
Thanks mituc, I appreciate the response.
I guess there is no better fuel economy mod than a light foot.
I do have upgraded HPFP internals, but did not mention it. My bad, I should stop assuming it is a given haha.
I'll flash the tune today and go for a "rip" with my fresh de-tune at POT . Let's see if I can match your 16.5/100 @ rush hour. Cheers and thanks again!

16.5l/100 in a CX7 with manual trans (20kmph average speed)... in a 3MPS/MS3 that is like 12.5-13l/100
