Mazdaspeed6 project

Post by wolfsspeed6 »

Hello, I am new to the tuning world and am looking for some advice. I have a 2006 Mazdaspeed6 and basically everything is stock except I just completed a HPFP rebuild and Auto tech internal upgrade and a catless dowpipe and test pipe form Circuit Werks, and a cat back from CPE (previous owner). I am wondering what my next steps are to start this safely as possible. Any info/advice would be much appreciated.

It really depends on your goals. Since the exhaust restriction is addressed, I would focus on the intake side at this point. Because on the 6MPS/Speed6 the air flow through the intercooler is far from optimal, I'd suggest that your next step to be a front mounted intercooler.
Basically to get your car from where it's at now up to about 350-370-400bhp (crank) you need these items:
- a FMIC;
- a larger turbo, I recommend BNR S3 since it's small enough to be perfect for a daily driven car, and still capable of 450bhp with supporting mods (aux fuelling and a built engine);
- a larger intake, a 3" ID intake should do (JBR, CorkSport). I would not go larger than that because you may run into other issues (having to relocate the battery or use a smaller one, even if the speed6 has a tad more space under the hood).

Thank you for replying, and giving some great info on where to take the car next, I have given it serious thought, but that isn't in the budget or plan ATM. Right now, I'm curious as to what my next steps in starting it safely. Like, I'm unsure to start it with the oem tune, make sure it running correctly, then the versa tuner, tune. Or just load versa tuner, tune. And then data log?

It's always a good idea to start with a base tune from the tune database.
You can download a dashboard preset from here for your car: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/afnzjbrr ... lue6q&dl=0
Take some logs: 2-3 normal driving logs of 1-2 minutes each, a 30 seconds warm idle log, one or two WOT logs in 3rd gear (unless the car feels weird or has any issues), and let's see. Post the download link for the logs here or you can DM them to me directly.
