Because it is running a bit lean, and for the same commanded load you will get more actual air into the engine. Because the fuel is always in excess in open loop, running a bit leaner and having more air in will result in burning more of that excess of fuel, which results in more power.

If the tune scares your wife then you can de-tune in certain areas to make her feel more confident.
