Morning all,

I've got 2007 6 MPS, UK model. It has an air filter with a (now) 3" MAF housing, a secondary decat and a dual port dump valve so is lightly modified.

Bought and installed Versatuner today, installed a 3 inch MAF housing on the car and flashed "Base 93US/98EU Octane - 3 Inch / 76mm MAF Housing with Crackle and Pop". I've enabled launch control flat shift and smooth shift in the process.

All works well, car drives better than it ever has, instantly noticeable improvement. Issue is there's no pop and crackle. Does pop and crackle require a straight through exhaust? Exhaust was popping a bit after installing the decat but doesn't seem to on the over run after flashing a tune designed to make it do so.

Any ideas? Exhaust is stock aside a secondary decat. Car runs perfectly and launch control etc works so map has flashed correctly, I assume.

That tune should give you crackles under decel anywhere from 2250rpm down, ideally from higher.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I will do, next time I go out and drive it I'll take the laptop with me and log it then upload.

OK, so I got some logs. What good they'll do though is anybody's guess. I think there are larger problems afoot here than just the map not taking correctly.

So, when I first flashed the ECU, I got an error. The map seems to take OK, Versatuner software then moves to a further step which says "Preparing your car for use", at that stage I got an error that said "Negative response ServiceNotSupported received when using service 09". As the car started and ran OK, I didn't think much of it and put it down to using a Windows tablet that has some quirky compatibility issues.

Fast forward to yesterday: I thought that as I'm taking the time (and other people's time) on the forum, I'd run through a few things to make sure everything was as right as it could be before taking the logs. I updated the firmware on my OBDLink SX and used a different, better laptop to flash the tune. Unfortunately, I'm still getting the same "Negative response.." error on that. I take it that's not normal?

Further to that, I thought I'd better check to see if I'm getting any fault codes come up and lo and behold I am indeed getting error codes, they sound pretty drastic. They are:

• U0100 - Lost Communication With ECM/PCM "A"
• U1900 (no description)

A quick Google - for which there aren't many results - doesn't fill me with confidence.

I suspect all this is related, what the hell I'll do about these error codes I've no idea as I've neither the time nor the inclination to chase ECU related issues. Sigh. All I wanted was pop and crackle, I guess I should just be thankful it seems to run OK with the 3" MAF housing

If anyone can help with any of this I'd greatly appreciate it. TIA!

The problem is that your car never reaches those load values where it's supposed to make pops. I suspect it's the decel fuel cut option that does that, however, it's supposed to work.
Do you have the full versatuner or lite version?

In practical terms, what does that mean please? I had a quick Google but I'm not particularly ECU minded. Which is why I only bought the Lite version, unfortunately.

Aside spending more money, is there anything I can do about it?

I must confess to being a touch disappointed. I guess it's my car rather than the software but I pretty much only bought it for pops n crackles. Typical!

Well, if you had the full version I could made you a tune with pops & crackles without having to enable decel fuel cut.

On your dashboard replace boost pressure with long therm fuel trims and boost air temperature with short term fuel trims, and do some normal driving logs (2-3 minutes, including idling, normal city driving, light pulls like from a stop light, so just normal driving, no more than 50% throttle).

Your car is warming up very slowly which may be a reason for the ECU to draw more air in. This combined with the disabled decel fuel cut simply doens't give you the results you wanted. Most probably you have a stuck open thermostat (which is good, most of the times that dies shut closed and it's not that fun especially if it happens during summer).

I'm fine with regular, light mechanical work so I'll replace the stat and see if that helps with anything. Just had a quick look and in the grand scheme of things doesn't seem like too bad a job at all.

I've got a little while to consider an upgrade to the full version of the software at the lesser price so I'll see how I get on with work this month and then maybe I'll take you up on that offer! I do planning on keeping this car for a while so maybe it's a good investment anyway.

Just wanted to post up with some further thanks Mituc. Finally replaced the thermostat and got it bled up today, taken it out for a drive and now getting some pops and bangs. Next step, chop off the backboxes!
