3 inch intake help

Post by Edain »

Hello. I have a 3 inch KYN intake system and cone filter, everything works fine and I want to install the HKS Super Power Flow filter. Can you tell me if I need any adjustments to the ECU?

Hi,
No, you should not need any changes to the ECU tune if the MAF table is already calibrated for the MAF housing you are currently using.
However, sometimes the air flow pattern behind the air filter may change depending on the air filter design, and depending on how close the air filter is to the MAF sensor it may affect the fuel trims a bit but not enough to require a new MAF calibration.

P.S.: KYN or K&N? If so, I do not think K&N makes are 3" intakes, only stock sized intakes.

Thanks for your reply. Sorry, I meant to say K&N. Regarding fuel, is it an increase or an improvement?

It's neither, the fuel trims will only tell you how much the tune logic adapts to the variation of the air density, oxygen content of the fuel, and so on. I only mentioned to make you aware of this potential change. I've seen cases when people tend to look at the fuel trims and start searching for problems when they see even a small variation.
