New User - Quick Log Check and Questions

Post by jonjon »

Hi! I'm new to using Versatuner and have been using the 91US/95EU base map for my gen 2. I just wanted to upload a quick log if anyone could take a quick look to see if I have any glaring issues with my car from it. The log I took was 3rd gear WOT. One thing I would like to note is that my stock turbo is pretty tired... I believe it to be leaking a little bit of oil but not enough to make the car smoke noticeably.

Mods:
CS upgraded HPFP
CS turbo inlet pipe
CS TMIC
race pipe

I recently got a CS stock diameter SRI used and I plan to put it on the car soon. With my current mods, should I use the 93US/98EU high load + CPE CAI + Corksport race pipe tune? Also, are there optimal conditions for logging? Where I live is quite hot so the car immediately heat soaks.

Thanks!

The measured air flow is about 20-25g/s down from what we should see with a stock tune (around 210-220g/s or 28/29 lb/min if you prefer the lower resolution units).
Even though the OTS/stock tunes will correct quite a lot for any of this, from what I can tell you may have both vacuum and boost leaks.

P.S.: a CS SRI will be just fine on the OEM maf calibration. But you can try the high load tune for the CPE intake and CS racepipe (version 1.06) because the MAF calibration on that tune should also match the CS stage2 intake (the CS Stage2 will flow less at least in the first part).

Thanks a ton for taking a look! I am very confident that I have no vacuum/boost leaks as I have smoked tested the intake and it seems pretty good. With measured air flow being around 10% down, could it be from my tired turbo or a dirty/bad MAF? I do a have spare MAF I can try to take another log with.

I have to be honest, I've never really seen a tired turbo so far still making boost :) We've seen turbos that can push a bit more than others and that was mostly because of how the boost control system (EBCS, wastegate and the actuator/arm) was functioning or depending if and how the cats were clogged, but other than that... not really. Turbos that were smoking entire neighborhoods at idle were pushing 300 bhp all day. When a turbo is truly tired it just seizes and at that point you have no boost :)

So the airflow being about 10% down while the EBCS duty is still around or at 100% cannot be attributed to the turbo in my opinion. The peak boost is also a bit on the low side, 12-13PSI instead of close to 15, and the log has a trail of light KR which is an indication that the ECU is not happy about something or that you indeed have an exhaust blockage and the extra exhaust pressure could lead to that knock.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll mull over your advice. I did recently fix a nasty misfire that maybe hurt the stock downpipe.

What was the cause of the misfire and how did you fix it?

I had a misfire from a faulty injector harness which was replaced to fix it. In the process to diagnose it, I ended up overhauling most of the fueling system
