Backup already modified ECU

I'm considering versatune but my ECU is already modified after rebuild, don't know if it was done with versa or mazdaedit or what.
It has many mods like uprated oil, earlty fans turn on, 5k rev limit on cold, pops and bangs, no CEL on decat etc. and I wonder if backup feature in versatuner will backup current firmware with tune so I can recover it to current state it is no matter if it's stock one or modified.

If the ECU is not locked, VersaTuner will back up whatever tune is currently on the ECU and you will always be able to restore to it at any time. If the ECU is locked, you will get a message about that and you will need to remove the tune before you can install VersaTuner.

Can I determine if ECU is locked with free version? Car is on paintjob so I can't check it ad-hoc
