Recent recall of Diesel cars in Australia

Hi Team,

There's been a recent recall of about 35,000 Mazda CX5, Mazda 3 and Mazda 6 diesel variant cars in Australia, where it's been reported there are some issues that could negatively affect the car in the long run. Mine unfortunately has the mishap of dying a month ago due to this issue before the recall but Mazda was good enough to replace the engine and parts almost 5 years after purchasing.

A link to a recent news article is below.

I also don't know if this is likely to affect all diesels worldwide or if it was only specific to the Australian market.

After the getting the car back Mazda confirmed that they had updated the ECU software to apparently resolve the issue. Question I have is, if I flash the ECU to the versatune base flash would it likely remove this fix? or is the flash that versatune installs specific to the mapping tables only?

Cheers,

Alex

Sounds like the vacuum pump issue or the intake clogging problem. However, The diesels up to 2015 have various other serious issues: injector seals (models up to 2015), exhaust camshaft wear (models up to 2014), oil pump tensioner (models up to 2015).

So the procedure is this:
- flash the car back to stock;
- bring the car to the dealer;
- let them flash whatever;
- when you will flash versatuner back it will not overwrite the portions of the code that were touched by the dealer, supposedly only the calibration tables.

VersaTuner always overwrites the entire contents of the ECU, so if our base ROM is not the latest, the Mazda fixes would be lost.
When you get the car back from the dealership, click "Identify" to read the updated ECU calibration ID and email it to us. We will update our base ROM for that ECU calibration to the latest version.

Yes, please email your calibrations IDs if you want to get the update sooner. It may take a while for us to upgrade them all otherwise.
