Nitrous? Does it need tuning?

Post by Mblade618 »

I have recently upgraded all of my systems such as ignition, air intake, headers, exhaust and have bought the Zex 82023 wet nitrous kit with 50 shot fittings, is there a tune or values i should change to adjust for the upgrade or can i run it with no issue? I wont be using the pedal as my activation, i plan to use a button since i drive an automatic 6 port

If you run only a 50 shot you'll be fine.
No need for any timing adjustments for that level.

My setup was pedal triggered (WOT), I tried to make sure to engage once I felt the SSV's were open to avoid any pooling.
Basically over 3500 - 4000rpm, if you want to play it safe 4500 rpm.

Back in the day, I had MazdaManiac tune a 65 shot for me and that was fun. I would have to find the Dyno chart to be sure, but IIRC I think it did 211 to the wheels (again IIRC a DynoPack Chassis Dyno).

I started getting brave and went to a 75 shot, and got a little punchy with throttle and had a manifold backfire.
So that was fun. (said no one ever).

And for your kit did you use a window switch or did you just hope and pray that you won’t spray while shifting? Because I drive an auto with a 6 speed manual mode and worry that maybe it’ll keep spraying even after I stop pressing the button

LOL that made me laugh.
I guess I hoped and prayed.

The arming switch was within easy reach I guess I could have hit that if the Nitrous solenoid stuck open.
Or ride'er out! :bigeyepop

FWIW I found the old dyno's if your interested.

My base run dyno doesn't have a date, I would guess it was performed around 2006-2007
HP 171 Torque 131

55 shot runs on 2010
HP 225-230 Torque 167-170

LOL I also have a time slip of a 1/4 mile run (My first and only time)
14.2 @ 97.7 mph

edit: I tried to upload jpg's images but I keep getting a invalid format error

Sorry I was AFK on vacation, and not paying attention to the posts.

For a 55 shot I used the following jet settings:
Nitrous Jet = 0.032
Fuel Jet = 0.017

No timing adjustment.
