Tuning Help

Post by Timo M »

Hi guys im new to the tuning world and I want a tune for my 04 RX8 it has an AEM front mount intake BHR high flow catted midpipe and a HKS single exit catback everything else is stock on it. I dont really know how this works but does anyone have a like map they could send me i looked through the ones that are just on the S1 rx8 site and none matched up.

i have similar mods albeit a bridgeport engine and i used the "premade tunes" and the engine is still with us.

i did notice on the higher octane tunes that i was getting audible pinging on heavy load in about 3rd gear right around 6000 rpm to about 8000rpm.

pure speculation only, but i surmise this was due to both premixing and upping the OMP to the stage it caused issues (i was using aus 95ron rather than 98)

reduction in omp to stock values at high load and retarding the timing a little fixed it.

any butt dyno hp gains were unnoticeable.

comparing standard tunes and the premade ones are a good learning tool for educating yourself on how the ecu works and for MAF based tuning. Playing within the parameters of stock tune and the premade is somewhat "safer" than going it alone, and you may find some gains should you do repeated logs, but that will become tiresome in time.

All i ended up doing was richening the mixtures and advancing the timing pre 6000rpm and leaving it stock elsewhere.

Leaving it scream for long and extended periods of time on a "safer/stock" part of the map outweighed the tiny gains in total hp and improved response a little - my take on it only

fully sick hp gains through adjusting the maps were barely noticeable. even after extensive bolt on mods.
