I have a 2005 Mazda RX-8 and I’m looking for a proper custom tune.
Current modifications:
* Catless exhaust / straight exhaust
* Air pump (secondary air injection) removed
* LS coil conversion
* AEM cold air intake
I’ve tried several off-the-shelf plug-and-play tunes, but I haven’t found one that runs well. I’m constantly getting codes related to the catalytic converter and air pump deletion, which is expected, but I’m also getting intermittent misfire codes.
What’s confusing is that when I change tunes, the misfire code changes from Rotor 1 to Rotor 2, which makes me wonder if the tune is causing it rather than a mechanical issue.
Is it possible to properly disable the catalyst and air pump-related codes in the tune? Also, can an incorrect tune cause false misfire detection on these cars, or should I be looking elsewhere for the source of the problem?
Any recommendations for a tuner experienced with modified RX-8s would be appreciated.
