I've increased my timing on low rpms/low load, and really liked the affect.
Question: are there any long term side affects to this? Can I increase it too much even if I don't get KR?

yes, but is it always true? no KR = higher the better?

That is where a dyno will tell you whats right or wrong. It is possible to over advance and not get knock. Too much advance at low RPMs is hard on the rods.
