bosch 3 bar MAP sensor

Post by jdeves »

What needs to be changed in VersaTuner to allow for a Bosch 3 Bar MAP sensor?

I found posts saying its "supported" but nothing saying what needs to be done.

Guess I should have looked more before I posted that question. Looks like I just need to go into sensor calibration and change the scale additive and scale multiplier values.

I'm using Bosch 3.0 Bar T-Map Sensor Part# 0 281 002 845
Do you guys have suggested values for the new scalars and offset?

Bosch Part Number:
0 281 002 437 3 bar (20 kPa @ 0.4V , 300 kPa @ 4.65V)
0 281 002 845 3 bar (11 kPa @ 0.25V , 307 kPa @ 4.75V) This one is used in GM Stage 2 Sky / Solstice GXP upgrade kits sold by GM, i got this one from a forum member very hard to find for sale
0 281 002 456 3.5 bar (50 kPa @ 0.5V , 350 kPa @ 4.5V)

OEM Bosch 2.5 Bar T-Map Sensor / 0 261 230 129 :
Scalar A - 230
Scalar B - 0.235
Offset - 1.647

Bosch 3.0 Bar T-Map Sensor / 0 281 002 437 (fitment verified, but not tuning):
Scalar A - 65.88
Scalar B - 1
Offset - 6.353

Other Bosch 3.0 Bar T-Map Sensor / 0 281 002 845 (fitment verified, but not tuning):
Scalar A - 279.5555528
Scalar B - 0.23529412
Offset - 5.44444 (repeating)

I have personally used this one: 0 281 002 845 3

It is widely available from GM dealers as GM part number 55206797. It is an OEM Opel and Vauxhall part too, so it's also available in Europe.

I used 65.7777 as the first multiplier, 1 as the second multiplier, and 5.4444 as the offset/additive.

This gave me 11.0 kPa at 0.25v, 300.4219 kPa at 4.65v, and 306.9997 kPa at 4.75v

Steve, did you have to do any soldering to get it connected? How's the pin layout compared to the OEM MAP sensor?
Will the car start and run (enough to drive it slowly, not rev it more than 2500rpm and not go into boost) just to get it to the dealer, have them do their diagnosis and get back, with the stock calibration? The other 845 sensor it supposed to work like this... but I'm not sure if the MAP sensor readings are only used to prevent overboosting or bot something else too.

You need to solder in a new pigtail. I got mine here: http://www.bmotorsports.com/shop/product_info.php/products_id/1626

The Bosch BSK connector on the 3.0 and 3.5 BAR TMAP is different from the Japanese connector used on the OEM Mazda TMAP.

The pinout is the same.

The ECU doesn't really care about MAP other than overboost protection. It will run just fine.

Good!
Now, I'm not comfortable with soldering anything like connecting to the car. So how does this work? You basically need to solder the connector and the MAP sensor prior to fitting them on the car or this requires any wire cutting from the car, soldering the connector there on the wires that go to the ECU and then fit the MAP sensor?
I can solder basically anything, a few years back I was doing even complex stuff, just that I'm not really comfortable with touching any wires that go to the ECU with a soldering gun.

I wonder if I can unplug the stock MAP sensor and reuse any of the harness there.

You can cut the old connector off of the harness and re-terminate it with the new pigtail or splice the new pigtail in parallel. You would need to protect the old connector from the elements if you splice in parallel.

That branch of the harness is behind/under the power steering pump, and if I recall, comes up from the AC compressor. It's been a while since I did it. There is not much slack, so it's a pain in the butt to solder.

I unclipped that branch of the harness from all of the cable retainers in the area and pulled what little slack I could. That left me just enough room to cut the old connector off and solder the new one on. It's just the 4 wires. Make sure you seal the solder joints well so they don't get wet or corrode.
