Torque Limits FAQ

Post by Steve @ VersaTune »

What are Torque Limits?

Torque Limits are various limits imposed by the ECU on engine torque output to prevent or stop wheel spin.

When are Torque Limits Imposed?

Under certain circumstances, the ECU will reduce the torque output of the engine. Examples are: loss of traction, ie. you floor it in first gear (traction control), or you are turning or coming out of a turn (torque vectoring).

How does the ECU reduce torque to meet these torque limits?

The ECU reduces the load target which may result in lower boost and/or a reduction in throttle opening.

How do I prevent this from happening?

In the Special Features tab of Tune Customizer, check the “Disable torque limiter” check box.

What should I expect with this feature enabled?

You should expect full power regardless of steering wheel angle or wheel spin.

How does the DSC button relate to this?

When Torque Limits are disabled (checkbox checked) the DSC button on the dash has no effect on torque output.

Do I need to drive differently?

YES!!!! The ECU will not be trying to prevent wheel spin! You are responsible for controlling your vehicle!

So basically this is a way to disable the traction control but still have Dynamic Stability Control. Not quite the same as disabling DSC which disables both TC and DSC, right?

When this feature is active, the ECU ignores any torque reduction requests. In theory the DSC module should otherwise be active. We are not touching the DSC module.

Can you tell if it does that all the time or only when the APP is over a certain value? Either way this is awesome.

When activated, it is always on until you reflash and deactivate it.
