Hi All,
I sold my original mazda 3mps a couple of months ago and regretted it the day after so I am looking at getting another one.
I had versatuner installed on my old car and loved it and I would definitely want it on my new car. However, I have a feeling that the car I am looking to purchase has already been remapped.
What I'd like to know is:
1) if the car had already been remapped can I install versatune?
2) can my old version of versatune be used in logging mode only to determine if it has been remapped?
3) I have heard that some remapped ecus could be locked and therefore how can I check? Is there a piece of software available?
Looking for some quick answers as there are other potential buyers.
thanks
Lee

1. only if it was returned to stock and the EPROM memory is brought to exactly the same state as before, or if it currently has a tune that is not locking the ECU. If the ECU is locked you may not be able to rewrite it or even read from it.
2. no, it will stop when it will not find your VIN there;
3. I guess that can be found at the mazda dealer where ideally you should do a complete verification before buying.
If it was a 3MPS BK you could have never made a bigger mistake, as the mazda 3 BK (2004-2008) in general, and the MPS/Mazdaspeed3 in particular is one of the last few indestructible cars on the planet in this price range and from the late 2000's (along with vw golf 4 1.9tdi ALH and possibly 2-3 other models).

If it has an ECUTek map on it, you will have to take it to an ECUTek dealer to have it uninstalled. ECUTek locks the ECU.
Other mapping software can be overwritten if they don't change the access key.
The only way to tell is to try to install VT.

Hi Steve,
Is there anyway I could get a trial version of versatune to try and install to see if the ecu is locked?
Thanks

Здравствуйте !!! Нет ли возможности в VersaTune настраивать ЭБУ Мазды 3 с атмосферным двигателем 2.0 LF ? Если нет, то планируете вы выпустить чтото подобное для настройки атмосферных моторов ?

No, the Versatuner software works only for the 2.3DISI-Turbo engine and for the RX8.
However, you can tune the normally aspirated Mazdas with MazdaEdit.

following on from this thread,
i have versatuner installed on my laptop from my previous MPS which has now sold.
BUT
I have a new MPS which already has Versatune installed on it apparantly, so i deleted my version and installed versatuner from the original link i got when purchased it on first car, but instead of giving me option to put the VIN in the first steps its allready got my details from last car which i dont own, does VERSATUNE save something into registry or something i unistalled versatune the traditional add/remove programs route?
thanks for any help

You need to download the versatuner software build for the VIN number of your current car and not from the original link you received for the previous car.
This should be easy basically, but if you have difficulties doing so this is not a question to ask on the forum, but rather an issue to bring up directly to the versatuner sales support.

So in short terms I've got to hope the previous owner can be bothered to send me the email he got when purchasing?

Yeah, this or simply contact the Versatuner sales to provide you with the correct link. The software is already paid for so there's no problem for them to give you just the link.
