OTS tune for downpipe + CorkSport SRI

Post by aswitchboardcat »

I’ve got a CorkSport Stage II short-ram intake and stock exhaust and am thinking about adding a catted downpipe, probably also CorkSport’s.

Is there an OTS tune I can run with this setup until I pay for a custom tune? I’m on 91 octane in California. The crackles and pops would be nice too.

You can run any base 91US/95EU tune with these mods.
Make sure you upgrade the fuel pump internals before you put the new downpipe, for at least two reasons:
1. with a faster spooling turbo due to the downpipe sometimes the factory pump may not keep up with the fueling demand;
2. you can unlock significantly more power with just pump internals than with just downpipe.
I tuned a few people only having your mods and no HPFP internals and it's always a struggle to find and then keep that fine line between extracting as much power as possible from that setup and not attacking the Moon with connecting rod bits, wrist pins and whatever an engine throws in the sky when it suddenly decides the divorce has to take place at that very moment.

Interesting. I do also have CorkSport HPFP installed. Are you suggesting my money may be better spent on a proper tune with only the HPFP and intake? I'm a little hesitant to add the downpipe due to the age of the stock turbo (140k miles), but another possible path may be just a tune for now and then a turbo + full exhaust once the K04 dies. What do you think?

Thanks for the input!

Yes. Basically a tune will get you the highest amount of extra power. A car with full bolt-ons and a stock tune will be slower (by a lot, assuming it's still usable) than a 100% stock car with a good tune. Now in your case since you also have pump internals you can go a bit higher than an OTS map. How much higher - I found that to be different from car to car because various things: turbo, injectors, fuel, and so on. You can contact me directly if you want to find out.
If you can't add all the mods at the same time (which is the case pretty much all the time, life takes priority over the needs of our inner teenager) then I'd go with a tune before anything else, in this case before any exhaust mods. The tune can be adjusted later for any other performance part you will add later on the road.
