My Current CX7 Tune.
My Current CX7 Tune.
Hello All...
Here is my current tune for my CX7 and a spreadsheet showing what changes I have made to ignition, load, WGDC & fuelling tables.
The design of this file is:
- Extra 5 degrees advance in low RPM and low load area to help with fuel economy at daily cruise speeds.
- Retarded high RPM to help with knock.
- Target of 1.80 load to keep boost levels down.
- Slightly leaner cruise AFR.
- Added advance to CL Normal table in the 2500 -3500 RPM range to help with throttle response.
I have had little chance to log, but I do have a DashHawk permanently connected so I can monitor the ECU. It is showing that everything seems to be well within what I would expect.
This file has been on the car for week now, and considering ambient temps of 30-40C and only local driving with the car never over 80kmh, I have had awesome results. And I mean no highway driving. The average speed on the trip computer is 37KMH. Stock, I would get general L/100km of 15. Now I am getting 13.6. At this rate, I am likely to get 50+km more a tank.
The throttle response is tremendous.
I will log when I get the chance. I am on holiday, and not in a position to tear around making logs.

Re: My Current CX7 Tune.
Hello All...
Here is a log driving home tonight of my version 1.12 tune.
The car easily holds my target 1.80 load, with the boost (in my opinion) sitting nicely in the area I was targetting (16-17PSI). The third gear pulls look to me pretty clean. Fueling is right where I targetted, and there is very little knock. It would be nice to pull a bit of boost spike out, but even that was not too bad. I could dial out a little OL ignition at 5000RPM, and maybe add a little in the midrange.
The only area I am looking sadly at, is first gear. There are a couple of full throttle 0-XYZ KMH runs, with the car in drive. Second gear hits around 15PSI, tapering to 11-12PSI at 6200RPM. So that is OK. Third gear is OK.
Any thoughts would be gratefully accepted.

Hi There...
I am not sure how many CX7 Owners are part of the Beta Team, but I'll post the results and tunes I am working on for reference. Logs to follow when I have done a few KM to settle things.
This is version 1.14.
Features are:
- Revised timing to remove knock at 5000rpm,
- Revised WGDC at 2000RPM.
- Load Targets are still 1.80 to keep boost in 16-17PSI range.
Cheers All.

Re: My Current CX7 Tune.
Hello All...
After testing this file (1.14) out for fuel economy, I must say that I am ecstatic..!!
With my regular driving in Suburbia yielding around 390KM per tank (stock tune), today v1.14 tune gave me 460km for essentially the same driving. And with more pickup and mid range power.
Cheers..!!

Re: My Current CX7 Tune.
So considering the current mileage figures, how many miles before you get you money back for the versatuner and tactrix from the improved fuel economy?
I'd do the calculation myself but I don't know how much did you actually pay for the tuning solution + shipping, taxes ans so on, and I have no idea about the gas prices in NZ either

Hi There...
I filled up today, and the price here in Melbourne (Aus) was $1.67 per litre.
With my L/100KM down from 15.2 to 13.5, I am saving some money. I estimate about a ten litre a tank saving at $16. So that would be about two years to recover all costs.

Re: My Current CX7 Tune.
Hello All...
I ran a 0-100kmh test via my Dashhawk OBD logger.
With the car in "Drive" the 0-100km time was 7.12 seconds. And that is with a 1.8 max load.
Not too bad for a 1.8Tonne AWD auto..!!!

Not bad at all!!

Re: My Current CX7 Tune.
Thank you..!!! And as a bonus I get heaps better fuel economy. Oddly, it felt really slow. And that can be an indication of very smooth acceleration. Not peaky. And that is perfect for a luxury car.skiptownmcat wrote:Not bad at all!!P
All I need to try and figure out is how to get the car to be quicker off the line. It has a typical "bog" before the beastie starts to move. If I can get rid of the bog, it will be a sub 7 second car. And that is quick for such a big and heavy car.

Re: My Current CX7 Tune.
Hello All...
Just to add more information regarding my current v1.14 file.
This current tank of fuel is sitting at 455km, with the Trip Meter still showing 43km to go. To be honest, i'd say it's more like 20km. Nonetheless, that gives me almost 480km from a tank. Far exceeding any economy I have ever seen on my CX7.
Add to that, my dyno result. Parameters for the day are:
- At Sea Level,
- Ambient temps were 28C
- AWD Dyno,
- NM is in "Tractive Force" I have converted to NM ATW.
Who said "You can't have your cake and eat it too?"
