possible to copy tune from car?

Post by jdeves »

I had my laptop die and I no longer have a copy of the tune I had been working on but my car is still running it. Is there any way to get it off the car so that I don't have to start from scratch again?

well I really need to get to tuning so I can dyno in two weeks so I'm going to assume this isn't possible. If so, it seems like something that could very easily be added since I believe it is essentially the same as when you first load the software and copy your stock tune.

We do not presently extract the tune from any ROM image. We install a slightly modified factory stock tune during the initial install. We could probably add the functionality to parse the tune from an image of a supported ROM version. It would probably not be ready in 2 weeks time though.

That's bad luck, but surely you have an idea of where you were with the tune do it shouldn't take that long to get back to where it was before?
I email myself a copy every few revisions to avoid this.

Have you been working on it with VersaTuner? If so, I can send you a tool to extract the tune. If the tune was created using 3rd party tuning software, we will not be able to help you at this time.

My most recent backup was fairly old. I should have been more diligent about making copies and keeping them somewhere, I'll definitely be doing that from here on.

I ended up just using one of the base tunes available in VersaTuner and started over from there. But I definitely think being able to pull down a tune you uploaded with Versatuner would be nice.

Does the Versatuner lock the ECU from reading/flashing after install? I was wondering if I can take a look at the tables with another tuning software (mazdaedit) while having a tune flashed with the Versatuner.

MazdaEdit will not overwrite the ECU after VT is installed. It will error. I can vouch for that firsthand...!!!

Having said that, I do have a VT conversion of my MazdaEdit file when I was a beta tester for VT. It is for the CX7. If you send me your MazdaEdit file, I will be able to map across some tables for you.

Nope, that's ok, I will not purchase a mazdaedit license anymore as I will not be able to do this without a lot of tricks and hacks.
